Verdiblanco manoeuvres in the dark

As I type this, Pepe Mel is still experimenting feverishly on the training pitch ahead of Sunday's visit of Rayo Vallecano, so in the absence of any real news shall we have another song?

I'm not sure this one really has a name, because it's mostly lo-lo-lo, but it seems to crop up on YouTube as Forza Real Betis alé (which, as you'll hear, is sung at one point). Actually, I like to think it might be Forza Real Betis allez strictly speaking which would surely make it the world's first trilingual football chant (Italian-Spanish-French).

The Supporters of Gol Sur tend to use it as a kind of warm-up - a bit like Montserrat Caballé doing her scales - and although the song seems to be a relatively recent addition to the repertory, it's one that the whole stadium often takes up.

 

And the tune? Well, let's just say that when my wife and I first heard it we looked at each other a bit puzzled and said, at the same time, "Isn't that Enola Gay?" It just seemed so unlikely that a melancholy 30-year-old British electropop hit about the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima should suddenly reappear on the terraces of Real Betis. But you decide for yourselves...
